Youth
Why is youth always wasted on the young?
So many gifts we squander in the sun
The chains of worry we don’t free ourselves from
Stressing bout the rest and thinking who we will become.
See George B. Shaw had words full of wealth:
“Life isn’t about finding yourself, but making yourself.”
So don’t bother looking for what can’t be found,
Or waste your days searching amongst the crowd.
People telling you how to act, who to be
You should let yourself unfold naturally
Develop and grow, gain in what you know
Enjoy the stage of life you are living in. Oh,
If only the freedom could be realized,
The simplicity of youth explained for the eyes
Of children, so that they could see their lives
As the blissful ignorance I idealize.
We look back and dream of the old days,
When we used to dream about what the future beheld.
Now we long for the past and the old ways
But stuck in the present where we’re forced to dwell.
So I guess it is true how the light can turn on (In your brain)
You don’t know what you have until its gone (In the rain)
Appreciate it after things go wrong (Its insane)
I don’t wanna live life looking in the rearview!
So now I am here, where I’m at, right now
The place like limbo where every sound
From before I ignored comes back to implore
That I make something of myself. Or,
Be shaped by the forces of circumstance,
Go through the motions as if in a trance
Don’t even like the music to which I dance.
I don’t wanna live life wishing for a different view!
Youth is more of mindsets than of dates
It’s being free to make your shape
Not worrying ‘bout being tame
And making for yourself a name.
So I lay down and dream up new days,
Since nobody knows what the future beholds.
I made myself and I’ll make my way
Through life until I become old.
