"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

It's Christmas Day and the snow has stuck
It's a white wonderland outside
There's paper everywhere and toys scattered 'round
But no that’s not what he wanted to see
And when he asks "Momma, where's daddy?" He knows what he's gonna hear
The same question pops up around this time of year
And an answer isn't anywhere near better than it was

"Baby, I don't know where daddy is. He's gone away to help grandpa out. He'll be a while before he comes home but rest assured he loves you very much.”

And he pouts and his eyes close, 'cause he was so sure that this time it'd be different like he thought last time
High school starts on august 20th and just as every year he wonders why he doesn't know football
He asks why do girls lie and why doesn't dad call or write
Like every year before

"Baby, I don't know where daddy is. He's gone away to help grandpa out. He'll be a while before he comes home but rest assured he loves you very much.”

And he knows she's hiding behind the tears
That's the only woman who has held his heart so near. So even though he's not a baby and even though its’ been a while he nods and takes the hits like a man

A room full of white and sprinkled with gold
Holds the boy who you love and the key to his heart
Dressed in white and sheer lace
Ready to take her place by his side
But tonight he doesn't ask what he asked all his life
Because for once his life made sense without an answer

"Dad, it's okay, I don't need you anymore. Momma did a good job for the two of you. I don't know where you're at or what took you so long, but I've grown up and I know that when the time comes, and my son asks, he'll know his daddy was right beside him.”

My boy asked me to go to a game with him today
Under a clear blue sky
Nothing but dirty bleachers and clean fresh air
Nothing but me and my son
I was tired but I couldn't say no to those curious eyes
So I said "Yeah, let me grab my keys and we'll go"
Those were the best words I ever said and the best day ever spent
To look down at my little boy with a smile
For him to know I won't be gone for even a little while
