It's not about success; it's about significance.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Verse 1:

Here I am again—it’s a typical Saturday
Been single for a while now, but that’s okay
Rush out to the car when I get off of work at 5
Got a lot to do before the big dance tonight

Pre-Chorus:

No high expectations
Got no obligations
Just anticipation to dance away the night
Never saw it coming
But you, you came running
And your eyes were sparkling under all the pretty lights

Chorus:

And you said to me that I looked so beautiful
It was the first time someone made me feel special
So throughout the night, we held each other’s hand
But once we left the gym, we never spoke again

Verse 2:

Well, here we stand—you’ve got your arms wrapped up around me
Your touch is so soft and your smile so sweet
The sparks are flying ’round and it’s never felt so real
I’d almost forgotten how good that could feel

Pre-Chorus:

Don’t know how this happened
All I understand is
I was so enchanted to be your lucky chosen one
Never saw it coming
But when you came running
Inside I was certain my days of loneliness were done

Chorus:

And you said to me that I looked so beautiful
It was the first time someone made me feel special
So I handed you my number
and said “Text me if you can”
But once we left the gym, we never spoke again

Bridge:

Well, once again I got my hopes up, and once again they just brought me down
This ain’t the first time that I screwed up, but have I learned my lesson now?
By now I’m pretty sure that it will always be the same
Another pawn is all I’ll ever be in this sorry love game

Chorus:

But you said to me that I looked so beautiful
No guy’s ever looked at me like I was special
I really thought we had something going
but I guess it was all pretend
‘Cause once we left the gym we never spoke again

Why must all good things come to an end?
Tell me why is it we never spoke again?

The author's comments:
At my senior year homecoming dance, I met a boy who asked me to dance with him. So I did, and we hit it off right away. He was the so sweet and such a gentleman-we really seemed to click. At the end of the night he asked me out, and I said yes, so we exchanged numbers. But for some reason, I never heard from him again after that night. I'll spend forever trying to understand what happened. But it's very discouraging, and I'm starting to think that I'll never find someone to love me. I wrote this song to vent my emotions about the situation.
