The Runaway
She takes pride in her flowers because it is the only thing of beauty in her life.
If she would’ve know back then, she would not have agreed to be his wife.
He uses her as a punching bag, every day and every night.
She blames it all on herself, even though she did everything right.
She acts like nothing is wrong when they are not alone,
but that’s not how she is when she’s at home.
She tries to run and hide from the destruction soon to come,
but she doesn’t have anywhere to go or to run.
She knew that if she ran, he would find her someday,
he would be like a predator, hunting for his prey.
She doesn’t know who she can trust with a secret that could cost her life,
she could end all this pain right now, with just a slit of a knife.
She couldn’t do that even if she really wanted to,
because in six months she would be due.
She was bearing the child of an abusive man,
how she didn’t see this coming, she would never understand.
When she was alone, she thought out a plan of action,
this plan was abandoned when she felt a contraction.
She called 9-1-1 because she knew something was wrong,
she figured that the child in her womb was not very strong.
When the doctor’s arrived, they said the child wouldn’t make it,
that very soon, it’s little heart would quit.
The reason they gave her was the same as the marks on her face,
when the child was gone, the doctor’s left to give her space.
All she thought about was how she could get out,
get out without her husband finding out.
She asked for a nurse to talk about her situation,
she asked the nurse to be her safe haven.
She told the nurse her life story, every detail from the past,
explained why she had to leave, get out of town fast.
The nurse could tell by the tone of her voice this was no joke,
she could tell the women’s heart was broke.
It was broke from the death of a child,
broken from a life where she never smiled.
She told her to sit tight while she thought of a plan,
a plan to get her away from this man.
She came back and explained what she had decided,
she asked the women if she would’ve minded.
If she minded going thousands of miles away,
if she wanted help finding her way.
For the women she would supply a ticket,
to where ever she wanted, there was not limit.
All the nurse wanted was for the women to be safe,
she knew that her husband would call for a high speed chase.
She got her out of there as fast as she could,
it looked like she was doing the right thing from where she stood.
But what they didn’t realize then was that she had a tracker,
and when her husband found her, he would surely smack her.
He would never forgive her for telling his secret,
the secret that medical help was needed.
He would need to go correct his mind,
in thee end, this would give her time.
Time to run and start her life again,
start it right and with the right man.
She would forget about her past,
until her ex was done at last.
Done with his treatments and his therapy,
but he would soon be filled with jealousy.
He wound search until he found them now,
he would claim that she had broken a vow.
She would say that he had broken her face,
hit her so hard, she needed a brace.
He would hit her and she would fall to her knees,
she would beg “Don’t! Please...”
He would not listen to the words she said,
he would punish her because she fled.
She would realize that there was no escape from this man,
no escape from his deadly hand.
It was at this point she realized her destiny,
a long and lonely life of agony.
She would cry every night and every day,
she would soon find her faith and pray.
Pray for a way out and for peace,
she wanted all this pain and worry to cease.
She wanted to leave this life behind,
to see what she could find.
Go so far no one would find her,
she wanted her past to be a blur.
So she would run and run for all her life,
all because she was his wife.
