The Real Man Inside
His father left him when he was a boy,
left him nothing, not even a single toy.
The boy would never understand why he left,
which would lead him to commit many crimes, including theft.
Growing up, he would live a life of solitude,
he would always have an attitude.
An attitude of hatred and betrayal,
and all through high school, he would fail.
He would start dealing and drinking,
like the Titanic he would be sinking,
Sinking into a life of many regrets,
doing horrible things that no one forgets.
He would continue down this road until he was 23,
leaving behind everything he could ever be.
When he met a woman, he would clean up his act,
he would make his buddies sign a pact.
A pact to help him get the girl of his dreams,
they promised to say he was clean.
He changed his ways and his looks,
because he didn't want her knowing he was a crook.
After they got married and settled down,
he would leave daily to go to town.
He would come home drunk as hell,
all he would do was scream and yell.
The real him would come crawling out,
his wife would begin to doubt.
Doubt that this place was safe,
and doubt he was worth getting punched in the face.
She started to think about how to get out of here,
get out before he drank another beer.
She would tell him her dad had a heart attack,
she would go to her family and never ever come back.
