“I want - I want - I want - was all that she could think about - but just what this real want was she did not know.”
― Carson McCullers, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

There was nothing to hold my indescribable proud
Your hands weren’t strong enough I was lost and never found
Not until now
We were walking into the setting sun
The fading light poured out of my blue eyes and sung
A San Diego lullaby
My mouth devoured meaningful words
And spilled those anxious ones that wanted to be heard
I was a fool, oh I was such a fool

It took me endless time to realize

You can’t change your roots only what’s above
We were California bound
And our path was carved
There’s nothing to know for you or for me
We were California bound
And never real
And when we left, again we were free

I gave birth to my new soul from the dreams that I have had
Said goodbye to unknown memories and left what was to leave
Now I am here

And the clock still was running chasing after time
And no one’s exposure could stop the crime
I was committing
I almost cried, yeah for once I almost cried

There was nothing I didn’t know I thought but

You can’t change your roots only what’s above
We were California bound
And our path was carved
There’s nothing to know for you or for me
We were California bound
And never real
And when we left, again we were free

I met a woman she told me I’d be fine
Whatever I will do I will do it right
Before our ways led us apart I stopped
Took a breath, let her words behind my wall
And for once I felt so safe
So safe I’ve never felt since I’m in this world
So cold outside my eyes were burned
No one could ever change this
It already happened and I
I was such a fool

I wrote this song a while ago, after I had just figured out that you should never try to be a person you're not or people might end up loving the one you're trying to be. I happened to be in California at that time.
