I begin to doubt creation

When even my imagination

Stumbles off the deep end a bit too far

Then I go to pull it back and scold it out and cover my tracks

Just to protect my false-believing glass heart

My sanity hung by a thread

My sleep hours are going missing

How do I wake up from this nightmare?

My head is paralyzed and I am

Stuck in the same loop of time

Someone, please pull me back

Before another pulse attack

Lace our fingers tight

Whisper a lullaby

Allow me to melt into your embrace

Before the clock strikes again

And you go chase someone else

So I'm left, lips and hands in the air

But then again, you were just a figment

Of my little...

Imagination

The speaker's on the microphone

I breathe in uneven tones

The noise is gone

My ears are ringing

Why is my head screaming?

The words come out behind a mask

Scared to hint at feelings passed

But I know better, I can see

I'm wiser than you think I'd be

"This isn't real," they say,

"You're worth nothing to me"

Lace our fingers tight

Whisper a lullaby

Allow me to melt into your embrace

Before the clock strikes again

And you go chase someone else

So I'm left, lips and hands in the air

But then again, you were just a figment

Of my little...

Imagination

My sanity hung by a thread

My sleep hours are going missing

I'm ready to wake up from this nightmare

My head is paralyzed and I am

Stuck in the same loop of time

Someone, please pull me back

Before another pulse attack

Lace our fingers tight

Whisper a lullaby

Allow me to melt into your embrace

Before the clock strikes again

And you go chase someone else

So I'm left, lips and hands in the air

Let our fingers go

Say you never loved me so

I can pretend that I'm okay

Before the meteors collide

And it rains fire from the sky

So I'm left, eyes wide and cracks deepened

But then again, you were just a figment

You were only a figment

You were simply a figment

Of my hopeless

Of my irrational

Of my lying

Of my little...

Imagination.

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece to tell a bit of an odd tale: the narrator is in love with somebody, and they know that who they love could never love them back. So, in order to cope, they build this imaginary land of sorts, where they can be with the one they love. However, they become so attached to this imaginary way of life that they get lost in their own head. The second verse is the narrator slowly realizing that what they're doing isn't any good for them in the long run, and the last alternated chorus is them finally coming to terms with how things are in real life and letting go of this imaginary world- most importantly, the one that they love.
