Is man but made of simple earthy clay?
With fragile shell and frail ceramic soul
So mean compared to Eden-esque bouquet
In His creation what could be our role?
Are we at most a vase, a cup, a bowl?
Yet to the Potter precious is the mold
That oft contributes to the final goal
To make unique in shape with every fold
The glaze is but the surface to behold
What matters most is what resides within
The candle placed inside be bright or bold
But if too weak will be snuffed out by sin
It matters not what beauty can proclaim
The worth of man is measured by his flame

The author's comments:
Personally I have realized that teenagers often feel extremely ordinary, especially in a physical sense. Having experiencing this myself, I have come to realize that man, although rather ordinary compared to the world around him is very plain. Despite his less than flamboyant appearance, compared to the wonders of the sea and the feathers of a peacock, man's soul, spirit, and morals are what create a unique aura within an individual.

I hope that teenagers will understand that what makes one special and unique is not the appearance, but their actions, reactions and their individuality. Self worth should not be dependent on society for beauty will eventually fade; man ought not to be judge by his appearance, but his actions, his words are what ought to be judged.

:) Thank you very much. Unfortunately, all I can really write are sonnets. I prefer a poem with structure; they are like "guidelines" if you will. lol

I feel happy knowing that you had been inspired. I often like comparing man to an every day object; it allows any human being to relate to this object in such a way that he has never imagined.

I would love to take a look at your work. :) I'm sure your pieces are quite impressive.

I agree 100% and that is a really good sonet! I can't write one of those very well... I have 2 really good ones but the rest of them fail hehe. And your sonnets are soooo inspiring! I think anyone who reads them will be like "oh my god that t'was amazing!" hehe
