Still
Stars shine in the sky, but I see them not.
The moon through the curtains is full and bright,
Singing sweet songs that are at once forgot,
Painting a hush through the dark musty night.
I sit on the ground and I find quiet thoughts,
While the city sleeps, silent, and I wake.
Outside it is hot, and for now time stops:
The sound of the moon is the sound that we make.
Sleep presses close, but this night has such time time,
That I stay and I sit and I wonder.
And the thoughts that I wind with tired mind
Leave soon to the moon: he will ponder.
I close my eyes, and I smile goodbyes
And sleep and wish never again to rise.
