Critique
The book Grimm’s Complete Fairy Tales is a fiction book by the brothers Grimm. It is many fairy tales some known and some not so known, but they have a dark twist to them. Here is why I think that you should read it.
It brings fairy tales like Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel but in a new and different way. In the book there are some stories that are not as well known as others, but that are still very good. It is a good book that i enjoyed reading very much, but i do not recommend reading it for a school assignment because it is a very long book. The book introduced me to new fairy tales, and showed me a different version of the ones that i already knew. For example, the version of Cinderella shown in the book is very different version to the one that we are use to seeing because it shows what the sisters were capable of doing in order to mary the prince(Grimm,81). In Rapunzel it also shows a very different version of the fairy tale. It shows how mother Gothel got the child, and what happened after the prince appeared(Grimm,44). I loved how it has so many stories that you could read it on all day, and still be entertained by it.
What i did not like about this book is that it is very long, and is sometimes difficult to understand because of their choice of wording. For example in the book it says “out with you, you idle, good-for-nothing creatures”(Grimm,64). It has wording that can be difficult to understand at times, but for the most part you will be able to understand the book and what it is trying to say.
So in conclusion, I recommend the book if you want to read it in your free time, but i do not recommend reading it for a school project.
