I was hesitant to pick up Single on Purpose by John Kim. I was wondering if I should even read this book after hearing it was based on a guy's perspective. How could a guy have this many feelings?   Would I be able to connect with it?  But without wasting more time, I decided to read it.

Typically I  have a hard time finishing a book because I get bored halfway through, but  this book  was different. I was instantly drawn in and connected with it.  Most likely because I have seen both of my parents go in and out of relationships since their divorce. Single on Purpose is one of the only books I have ever enjoyed reading. Throughout the book, Kim shows that everything takes time, but it is the waiting that kills everyone.  I heard my Mom say over the years that she would wait to find her “person” and it would happen when it was meant to be.  She said she enjoyed it and was confident about being single.  I saw this connection in the book as Kim explores the idea of choosing to be single as a valid choice for personal growth and self discovery. The book encourages readers to embrace their singlehood and learn to be happy and fulfilled without relying on a romantic relationship.

Kim found many different ways to help him get through his lonely stage and decided to share it with everyone. He shows the struggles he went through. But he also shows how he overcame it all. The way Kim writes this book shows how important the little things can be to people.

Kim does a great job of keeping the readers interested, in a topic that some people in society do not like to talk about.  Their singlehood. This book kept my attention due to the variety of ways Kim gets his point across. For example, he uses excerpts from his tweets, blogs, and emails with his patients from his therapy sessions. The snippets that he includes makes the content more relatable and it shows us that we aren't alone and other people are going through the same problems.

It's the kind of book where you become so invested in the plot that you are already hoping for another book just like it. Overall, Single on Purpose is a great book for anyone - not just those who are struggling or those who are just interested in relationships. Don’t hesitate to get this book next time you see it.
