Wonderstruck Brian Selznick
The book Wonderstruck is unquestionably captivating; it is an up-all-nighter! With
an intertwining twist of both stories at the end of the book, the outcome to the
story is nothing that I had predicted. It’s definitely one of the most realistic fiction
books that I’ve ever read, and it delivers a powerful message of family and
courage. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a surprising story,
with extraordinary art to go along with it! Wonderstruck has won the Schneider
Family Award of 2012.

My favorite part of this book was when Ben found out the history of his family –
one that he’s never met. Ben, deaf in one ear, is searching for clues as to what his
mother was preparing for his birthday surprise. Looking through his mother’s
things, he finds letters addressed to a man named Daniel. While making a phone
call, he's left completely deaf. After being in the hospital for a couple days, with
the help of his cousin, he ran away to find his father. Running away, he finds a
couple things that have been astray for all his life. On the other side of the story, a
little girl named Rose is born deaf. In desperate need of love and acceptance for
her mother, a Broadway star. When her mother mentioned of sending her home,
she too ran away. Instead of going home, she ran into her big brother, Walter.
Walter spent time helping her find something that she was passionate about. Will

they find what they are looking for… or something bigger than they had desired? ~C'yona
