The Meg is a shark movie that has the feel of a modern Jaws. It all starts with a group of marine biologists funded by a billionaire begin researching a very specific part of the ocean near China, Indonesia, Thailand, and somewhat close to Australia. After discovering that the depth that scientists believed to be the lowest ocean floor on the Earth may not actually be the bottom, the team decides to send a crew of three down to the area, which they believe is a cloud made up of hydrogen chloride. The team ends up breaking through the area, ending with them finding a whole other ecosystem that solidifies all of the hard work of the marine biologists. However, while the crew begins to map out the area, they soon get attacked by an unknown life-form, causing them to crash their submarine. Because they begin to start to lose oxygen, the rest of the team back at the headquarters decide that they need to enlist help. The leader of the project and a friend decide to travel all the way to Thailand to enlist help from the great Jonas Tyler. Jonas has previously traveled to some of the greatest depths of the ocean and is probably the most qualified person to rescue the crew. After some much needed convincing, Jonas travels to the area and begins to start to put his talent to work, as he helps the cause. However, while trying to discover all of the researches, he finds a gigantic shark that can only be a Megalodon. Megalodons are a species of sharks that were thought to be extinct, but after interacting with the ferocious, pre-historic creature, it becomes clear that this monster is far from being a fossil. When the Megalodon breaks free from the enclosed area, the unimaginable threat begins to wreck doom on the entire world, and it will take everyone's strongest effort to stop the beast from killing thousands. 

 The Meg starts things off brilliantly and manages to continue this brilliance throughout the entire film, while creating an enjoyable roller coaster that should be sure to impress. The middle of the movie progresses things incredibly well, and the enticing ending proves to succeed with putting the fabulous adventure to a close while ending things on a predictably light note. There are thrilling twists and turns sprinkled throughout the movie, which are much needed, considering that a good amount of the movie is more than just a little predictable. 

 The Meg is loaded to the brim with suspense, drama, and intensity, and all of them combine to make audiences on the edges of their seats for the entire duration of the movie. The movie tries to be more triumphant than all other shark versus man movies that have come before it, but although it isn't quite as well done as some of those classics, this movie certainly is entertaining from start to finish. The movie takes advantage of a superbly talented cast that makes viewers both fall in love with and hate certain characters throughout. Jason Statham in particular has a superb performance, and he helps to make the movie shine, even though the actual plot of the movie isn't the greatest.

 Although fans seem to be satisfied with The Meg, critics did not feel the same way. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a poor 45%, and Metacritic gave the movie roughly the same at 46%. However, a whopping 90% of Google users liked the movie, demonstrating that people who weren't hoping for the movie to be an award-winning film seemed to have better experiences with this extravagant train ride. 

 The Meg manages to have some vividly outstanding visual effects that help to make some of nature's wonders come to life even more than some would imagine possible. The effects are called on early and often, and they allow viewers to feel like they're right alongside with the sharks in the movie. These superb special effects allow the movie to have some truly wonderful action scenes that is sure to make hearts race. The visuals aid the actual Megalodon into becoming a bonafide star who's mighty jaws are sure to scare some viewers, as well as intensify the movie greatly as characters race for their dear lives to survive the brutal shark. 

 Although The Meg isn't perfect, it is scores of fun and is sure to please just about anyone and everyone, as long as they aren't hoping for a movie that is going to win a boat load of Academy Awards and aren't too scared of sharks.
