Delivery Man is a surprisingly charming drama that combines together comedy and emotional content to create an adventure that has its heart in the right place. The movie revolves around David Wozniak, who is a meat delivery man that drives around a truck for his family's meat business. Satisfied with living a life of ordinariness, he thinks he is finally able to find contentment with the life that he is living, despite how routine it is beginning to feel. However, one day, David's entire life comes crashing due to some newly gained information. The delivery man discovers that he is the biological father of 533 different offspring with nearly all of them eager to learn their father's true identity. Because of this, Wozniak finally believes that he has a chance to do something truly special and become a part of something so much bigger than just the sum of his own parts, causing him to decide to become accountable for his actions and do his best to act as a father figure to his biological children. Albeit, complications ensure, including how David's girlfriend becomes pregnant and is unaware of David's huge secret, which causes him to want to keep the information hidden. Meanwhile, David must also struggle with paying off some of his debts, making it seem like that David wants to do everything while his own personal problems hinder him from accomplishing any of his goals. As David does his best to do what he thinks is the right thing, he manages to learn about all of the various lives of all of the offspring that he never got to be there for and must discover the true meaning of family, because at times, it seems like he must choose between his massive amount of biological children, the family who he works with, and the new family that he is trying to create with his girlfriend.
Delivery Man manages to become an emotional roller coaster that knows how to pull at the heartstrings. As a movie that revolves around the concept of what makes a family, the movie manages to truly illustrate the power of family, which seems like a necessity, seeing as it is the true purpose of the film. While creating a powerful tandem between comedy and drama, the movie delicately balances between genuinely hilarious jokes and intriguing drama that is sure to please. The beginning of the movie does a satisfactory job of jump-starting the entire adventure and introducing audiences to the protagonist in David Wozniak, as well as his role as a meat delivery man. The middle of the movie does a great job of progressing things along and adding more content to the movie that helps to make the drama substantially more interesting. The enticing ending of the movie manages to conclusively end the entire film, while also tying everything together to cohesively wrap up the story. While also jam-packed with little twists and turns that help to shock viewers, watchers simply don't know what to expect for what is coming next, but either way, the movie manages to hook and drag them to the edges of their seats in frantic anticipation.
Delivery Man has a few amazing comedic aspects that help to ensure that the tone of the movie never becomes overly dark or grim. One of the best parts of the entire movie is the involvement of Brett, a laugh-out-loud funny lawyer that helps to make light of the whole situation as the buddy of David who helps him out in his unique situation in dealing with the realization that he is the biological father of 533 children. Brett has some outstanding one-liners that aid the dialogue in flowing, and his jokes are dispersed throughout, which further helps the fragile balance between meaningful drama and charismatic comedy.
Delivery Man greatly benefits from a star-studded cast that seems to revel in their roles. Vince Vaughn is the star of the movie, since he plays David Wozniak, who is the protagonist, and he manages to bring emotion and intensity to the role, allowing audiences to become that much more emotionally attached to the character on-screen. Chris Pratt has one of the most underrated performances in the entire movie because he plays the relatable and fan-favorite Brett, the witty lawyer. Chris and Vince combine together to create an awesome acting duo that thoroughly stands out for being so immensely entertaining.
Delivery Man may not be adored by critics, but it still proves to be a movie that is heartfelt from start to finish. The movie genuinely tries to reinvent a common concept in the power of family, and for such, it already has a leg up over other comedies that only serve for humor. This movie may not be an absolute must-see, but it is still worth watching, because it will certainly surpass most, if not all, expectations. More often that not, this movie triumphantly delivers.
