When They See Us
Have you ever been at the wrong place at the Wrong time and got into some serious trouble because it, well watch “when they see us”, it shows a lot about wrong place wrong time. “When they see us”, is a mini series show on netflix about 5 young kids wrongfully charged for a rape that they had nothing to do with. The people of New York originally called them the “Central Park Five”. The victim of the rape was Trisha Meili, she was a central park jogger. She was on her night run when everything had occurred.
The “Central Park Five” were Antron 15, Kevin 14, Yusef 15, Korey 16, and Raymond 15. They were all teenage boys when they were charged for rape. They all had great lives ahead of them until that one day when they were in the park when the rape occured. They were just being kids running around the park at night with all of their friends until police showed up and locked up random kids. Later to be called the “Central Park Five”.
When the police had detained the 5 teenagers they start to question them, about the rape incident. But, it seemed none of the boys knew what they were talking about. They were all lost, who? What? What are you talking about? I don't know? None of them knew what the police were talking about. Then later on, the 5 were wrongly interrogated without there guardian around them. They forced the children to admit to something they had never done. The only reason they admitted everything because they all wanted one thing was to go home. And the police had tricked them into making false statements to get home faster.
Later before you know it all of them are locked up, all GUILTY. For something they had never done. The five were incarcerated for about 15 years for nothing. But Korey Wise had it the worse. He had been sent to Rikers island for a beating. It was hard for him, very but he later on had to understand that their lives were over. Until, the person who had actually raped the girl had finally stood up and spoke up.
Around 2002 the Central Park Five were set free and no case or anything was against them. Everyone had lost hope in them but, they had an angel watching over and saved them for something they hadn't done. They were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Next thing you know it they got there name The Central Park Five. They had made history after all of this. Later on in 2014 the 5 were rewarded $41 million because of the cities wrongful conviction. I was lost for words when I had seen this, how can having fun with your friends turn out to be 15 years in prison losing their childhood. Now it makes me think I was never taught about this were they convicted cause there skin tone is racism an act in this. We would never know. They all had lost their teenage lives and young adulthoods because of this. This show is meant for everyone and taught to everyone.
