Dances With Wolves MAG

"Dances With Wolves" is a movie that combines the best aspects of drama, romance, humor and adventure. The movie begins in the chaos of the Civil War and quickly moves to the peaceful South Dakota plains. Lieutenant John J. Dunbar (Kevin Costner) after performing a heroic act is, at his request, transferred to the plains of the Midwest. Upon his arrival, he finds that the army camp is deserted and while awaiting reinforcements, Dunbar encounters the Sioux Indians who inhabit the plains near the camp. Gradually, Dunbar earns their trust, respect and, eventually love, as he learns their language, traditions and lifestyle.

The film is superbly acted and is very realistic. To hear the Sioux language spoken and see the relationship between a white man and a Sioux tribe develop is a moving and memorable experience. Although the movie is long (three hours), every moment is worth watching. n
