Back to The Future
The 1985 Back to the Future movie directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Stephen Spielberg quickly became a fan favorite. Back to the Future was an American classic depicting the future with a comical twisted into it. This movie won countless awards including the Hugo award and the Saturn award for best science fiction movie. After bringing in $383 million worldwide the producers took it to the next level making two more movies to follow. Back to the Future II was released in 1989 and Back to the Future III was released shortly after in 1990. This series became so popular that amusement parks made rides after the movie and several video games mirroring it.
Every kid has dreamed of time travel and what they would fix if they could travel back in time. In Back to the Future, Marty Mcfly the main character is a teenager who end up finding himself thirty years in the past. Marty had many family problems growing up, his dad was a nerd and his mom was a drunk, all he had was his good friend Dr. Emit Brown. Dr. Brown was the towns scientist who was always inventing new things. One day after school Marty was called to come to a parking lot to film Dr. Browns new invention. Marty gets there and finds a De Lorean turned into a time machine. During the testing they get ambushed and Marty takes the car and travels into the future. The rest of the movie is his struggles to get back into present day with the help of Dr. Brown from the past.
I personally give this movie a thumbs up with a high rating. This is one of my favorite movies because I connected with it. I have always told myself “what if I could travel back in time.” Its every kids dream and to see what the future would hold. Even tho the movie dealt with time travel it was never confusing. The movie had great clarity and was extremely humorous. I was able to follow the movie while enjoying every part of it, even laughing out loud at some of the simple jokes that where made. This is a family movie and would be great to show to a young audience because of their great imaginations. The kids will be able to create their own images of what the future will hold.
This movie constantly kept me wondering what will happen next and if there will be any ripples from the time travel. I instantly was hooked after he traveled back in to time and everyone was wearing different clothes and his home town was not even built yet. The outfits in the movie where spot on for the time periods of travel Marty encountered on his trips. My personal favorite is when Marty travels to the future and puts on a jacket the fit itself to Marty’s body. With this outfit Marty got Nike Air Mags that lace themselves and light up, I found this very appealing and made me think about what we will have in the future.
Acting was never a disappointment in this film. Marty Mcfly played by Micheal J Fox was some of the best acting out of any movie during this time period. He played the character perfect making it seem like he was not even acting. Dr. Brown played by Christopher Lloyd was a great example of how great the acting was in this movie. Lloyd gave Dr. Brown that sense of craziness mirroring Albert Einstein. Not many people liked Dr. Brown because they all thought he was a lunatic but in reality he was extremely smart and a huge part in the movie.
Something special about this movie is that it created emotions. Usually when you watch a movie you kinda nod off on a tangent but with this movie you are hooked. When Marty is trying to get back to present day it creates suspense and you start to worry that he will never return. During his time traveling his family members start to get erased because of the choices he made in each time zone. This creates sympathy and sadness and all you want is for Marty to solve every problem and to save his life. There are so many aspects to this movie that make it a great film for everyone even if they are not a fan of science fiction movies. This movie is suspenseful, comical and has the futuristic aspect to it tying in all genres.
