Be the change you wish to see in the world.

“Stay here!” the smuggler demands. He walks off with awful posture. Dressed in all dark loose fitted clothing. I begin to crouch down into a ball trying to stay warm.Knowing it’s been at least days since I’ve gotten the nourishment I need in order to stay healthy. Even a piece of bread and a sip of clean water would make a difference. If I was sick would they make me leave?
As I let my fate rest in someone else’s hands, series of luring aromas crowd my brain. I can’t even remember the last time I bathed. I feel so dirty it makes me disgusted.
Agonizing hours pass with no smuggler in return. I can’t believe how long the smuggler is taking to come back and tell us the ship has arrived. What will happen once we do get out of here?
“Hey You! What are you doing out here this late? It’s dangerous!”
My mother demands that the elderly lady be quiet. “ Our house has been destroyed.” “There’s nowhere we can go.”
We come to a conclusion that he has left without us. Gone with our life savings on a rickety boat with probably five other families money. I will never get out of this country. Never will I live a normal life. But most importantly never having the security of knowing I won’t be killed in the next minute.

I was inspired to write this peice after I heard my parents talking about all the Syrian refugees traveling and trying to leave Syria. I thought this would be an interesting topic to write a microfiction about. I hope people will try to put themselves into their perspective.
