The Three Peat
As game five is about to be underway, Tom Davis and his Chicago Bulls have a 3-1 lead on the Utah Jazz. Davis’ Bulls took game four just barely by four points by having Bulls star Michael Jordan put up thirty four points leading the team in points as the game just basically came to easy for him. This will be one of the biggest games of the season and Tom Davis and all of Chicago will be watching while biting their nails nervously. Michael Jordan and his teammates, a part of the so-called “big three” will need to produce some points to make sure they can seal a win and can capitalize a three peat for an NBA Championship. The Utah Jazz though, will be looking to make an infamous 3-1 comeback in the NBA Finals.
The Chicago Bulls are entering game 5 of the 1998 NBA Finals as the favorites as they will also have home court advantage. The Cinderella story is ready to be finished and the Bulls will be looking to get crowned NBA Champions for the third consecutive year. The famous Chicago United Center is packed and you can just feel the crazy atmosphere before the game even starts. Everybody is tailgating, eating food, and all the fans are engaged with each other in some way. The whole world will be watching game five as the Chicago Bulls are expected to pull it off. Tom Davis is a very calm and confident man especially when the team you own is about to win back to back to back NBA Championships.
The Bulls await the Utah Jazz and game five by warming up and getting suited up. Michael takes a huddle with the team, “Alright boys, we can do it tonight and we will do this tonight. That Larry O’brien trophy awaits us boys. Let’s go out there and do what we have been doing all series long but let’s also not get ahead of ourselves,” Jordan says to his crewmates in the locker room before the game begins. “I’m going to the club tonight boys, and honestly whether we lose or win, i’m still going” As Jordan’s teammate, Dennis Rodman says after his pre-game speech. “Hey D, we ain’t surprised, but could you please focus on this game before you even think about going clubbing." The Bulls locker room just laughs at Dennis as they are not surprised by what antics he has in mind after the game. Tom Davis and his coaches huddle up aside the players, “We got to walk out of this arena tonight with that trophy above our heads. I am not planning on flying all the way to Utah to do what we have planned out there” As Tom is strictly about business for game five. Phil Jackson replies to the coaches and Tom, “He’s right, I came here tonight to leave with that trophy and damn well I’m not going back to Utah.”
The Chicago Bulls run out of the tunnel and head onto the court for warmups. Just looking around the United Center, you can just smell the concession food cooking and you can see the excitement and energy that the fans have here tonight for game five. After the National Anthem, the starting five for each team head onto the court. Tip off is underway as the Bulls win the jump ball. As the first quarter transcends, you can already tell this will be a very close game that will end up coming down to the wire. Will the Chicago Bulls be able to pull off the three peat tonight or will the Utah Jazz rally and start their 3-1 comeback. The second quarter was full of a lot of rushed shots attempted by both teams as they shot 40% in the first half. Utah walks into the locker room at halftime with a one point lead against the Bulls. Tom Davis and his crew stands in the press box in the suites just hoping his team can close out the series tonight. Coming out of halftime, the Jazz are coming out with a lot of positive energy and start hitting some shots to start off the third quarter. The Utah Jazz get a lead up to 8 points at the end of the third quarter and they look to cap off game five in the fourth quarter. Michael Jordan knows he is gonna have to start being smart and taking good shots for his team to rally back. With two minutes left in game five, the game is tied at 76 and each team is fighting hard to knock down shots and take the lead. Utah knocks down a big three to take a 79-76 lead. Jordan comes down the court and hits a three right back in the face of the Jazz defense. The Utah Jazz get a much needed lay up and they now have a two point lead with time running out, But Jordan finds Scottie Pippen down low and the game is notched at 81. There is only 3 seconds left and all the Bulls can do at this point is foul and make Utah take their two free throws. Utah being the best free throw shooting team, they hit their two free throws and the clock runs out as The Jazz take game five 83-81. The United Center and the entire city of Chicago are just in disbelief. Chicago will have to look forward to game 5 to win the championship.
It’s a new day and game six will be underway in the city of Utah at the Delta Center. The entire plane ride to Utah for the Chicago Bulls was completely silent as they know that they can not let Utah even get a chance of making a comeback in the series. In the Chicago locker room during pre-game, Phil Jackson gave a strict speech to the players and other coaches that set everyone off and put them in a mindset that no others could even compare with. Both teams head out onto the court for the pre-game and the National Anthem. It is a sold out game six in the city of Utah, the crowd is going crazy and it will be one of the craziest games in Utah Jazz history. As tip off is underway, the Utah Jazz wins the jump ball and will have to show Chicago that they want to take this series to game 7. In the first quarter alone, Utah Jazz star, Karl Malone put up 15 points and annihilated the paint. With the look that Michael has on his face throughout the game, you can tell it is gonna be a game that he is gonna need to control and take over by himself. Going into halftime, Utah leads 49-45 and it is looking to be a seven game series from the outcome of the first half. Both teams returning to the court after halftime as Chicago is just thinking 24 minutes and the three peat will be successful and Utah is just thinking about how they are 24 minutes away from pushing what was a 3-1 lead into a seven game NBA Finals series. As the third quarter starts, Jordan automatically starts the second half 4-4 from the field with 14 straight points cutting down Utah’s lead to just 5. Karl Malone and Michael Jordan are just going back and forth as this game is now beginning to just look like a 1v1 matchup and the rest of the players are just decoys. With 5 minutes remaining in the game, it is now tied at 80 a piece. Karl Malone getting double teamed in the paint will not stop him as he continues to dominate the whole game. Jordan walks down the court, getting a screen from his forward Dennis Rodman, Jordan runs the pick and pulls up and knocks down a three as the Bulls now lead 83-82. Time being wasted by both teams as all players are trying to catch their breath and just to let the clock run down. Karl Malone sits in the paint again, pump fakes a defender and goes up for the shot while being fouled. The Delta Center explodes as it looks like Utah will push for a game 7. The Bulls will have the final possession with the shot clock off. Jordan is inbounded by the ball, get’s the switch he likes, pulls up…. BANG!! At the buzzer, Michael Jordan knocks down the game winning shot to give the NBA title to the Chicago Bulls for the third consecutive year as they claim the famous three peat. There was speculation that Tom Davis could possibly sell his team and move on with the Chicago Bulls, but with the game 6 win and the three peat solidified, Tom Davis won’t be going anywhere. Jordan and his teammates and coaches celebrate at mid court as the little amount of Chicago fans that showed up, cheer for their team and their city. Jordan and his Bulls have finally gotten the three peat they have been looking forward to all season long.
