The People of Detfig

The town of Detfig is a remote and destitute part of an otherwise populous country located in central North America. It is a relatively somber town with wildlife that flourishes throughout the area and is cool throughout the entire year. Technology is present but is wildly underfunded due to the constant overlooking of the town by the national government. There aren’t many people that call Detfig home, but the people that do are some of the most intellectually capable people in the country. Although they live and work inside the confines of the town, they tend to like dispersing themselves amongst the general population of the nearby city when work hasn’t become too much of an issue, which it often does.

It is a town whose economy revolves around physical labor and has worked in their favor for many years.  Every other weekday, they are given assignments by the local government to which they are to complete by a certain time, and if they fail to meet their quotas, dire consequences will be faced. Unbeknownst to the government, however, citizens of Detfig often aid others in meeting these quotas when times get tough, which shows that hard work doesn’t deter them from being the loving and compassionate creatures that they are all meant to be. There are many opinions that the citizens of Detfig have of their assignments. Some have argued that the assignments are designed to teach them how to become workers instead of thinkers. While others say that it is just busy-work that has no real value. Through all of the complaints and arguments, little has changed of these assignments, and they are still given to this day.

Detfig, as a whole, isn’t very religious, but the government forces them to abide by a collection of lessons and ideas called the Book of Guidance. Its purpose is to teach people how to grow as an individual, both academically and spiritually. The government also uses this book to gain inspiration when making assignments. Many of the townspeople, however, have expressed their outright distaste for the Book of Guidance, claiming that it only results in the economic and social decline of the town rather than benefitting it in any way. Others say it would cause us to digress in history if they focus on something that doesn’t help advance our society. The main advocator for the eradication of the Book of Guidance is known as Chief Regnu. He has repeatedly gone to council meetings to uphold the majority’s view on the book, but to no avail.

As can be seen, the people of Detfig have little control over what happens in their lives other than the minor intermissions that time may allow. Someone of simple understanding cannot imagine why anyone would want to stay in a place like this, and that is fair. But for the people of Detfig, they know that they are here to better their own futures and generations to come.
