Happy giggles filled the air as the matching sisters looked over their costumes. Both were dressed as witches, but they managed to contrast as much as their personalities. Annie wore bright orange with striped leggings and a huge pointed hat, Lily wore dark layered skirts with a tight bodice and teased hair.

Lily wore her usual costume, dark makeup a bit better than before, hair a bit more tangled. Annie looked like Pippi Longstocking, dyed hair in braids sticking out on either side of her head. They gave each other bright smiles as they made their way into the night.

The hospital was mostly silent, the nurses attempt to excite the kids going unnoticed. Sadly lacking decorations just reminded them what they were missing. Lily sat huddled in the corner, staring down at the lazily bleeding cuts marring her wrist before pulling her sweatshirt tighter around herself, silently wondering what costume Annie was wearing that night.

Annie wore the layered skirts and bodice, makeup applied unprofessionally. She sat alone on the porch, ready to hand out candy to the kids. She rubbed her eyes, grimacing as black came off onto her hand. She looked at the empty space next to her, then to the sky. She wondered what Lily would have worn this year.
