The day my life changed
The Day My Life Changed
It was the best day of my life. I could feel it as I jumped out of bed. I was finally turning 14. I’ve wanted to be wanted to be 14 ever since I could remember, and today was finally that day. It was going to be the most terrific day ever. That is until terrific turned into terrible. I had just started scrolling through my brand-new Instagram account on my brand-new IPhone, when I got a phone call, it had to be Grandma wishing me happy birthday. But on that very gloomy rainy Sunday, that one phone call changed my life forever. It was a call from my grandma, but it wasn’t the news I wanted.
“Your uncle Charlie is in the hospital. He was riding with his friends on his Harley. A woman was going the wrong way along the intersection and she hit him. He flew more than 25 feet away from where he was hit. He has very little chance of living and his Harley has no way of getting fixed. I know how close you were to him, I’ll be at the hospital today, sorry that this tragedy landed on your birthday. I love you,” she said. She had very little enthusiasm and sounded tired.
“It’s fine Grandma, I love you too. Keep me updated on everything that happens, bye.”
I dropped the phone and layed on my bed. This can’t be happening. She can’t seriously be telling me this on my birthday. My mom found out before I did and ran into the room. She was fully dressed and told me to get ready to go, we have to go to the hospital. She took a while because she takes forever to get ready. After a very silent car ride, we went straight into the lobby. There were very fancy chairs and goldfish tanks and my grandma crying. I ran and gave her a huge bear hug. It all happened so suddenly. It was all pretty much a blur. I don’t remember too much detail. I felt numb. I felt like a trapped lion in a cage at circus. The day went fast and I didn’t get to see him , they said he wasn’t in good enough state. I went home later and threw my coat down, mad at myself. It landed on the old Barbie house I’ve had since I was 5. I kicked it. I cried out in pain. Stupid doll house. That’s when the magic happened, literally. Gold lit up my dark room. I stood there shocked. I ran up to my coat and threw it on the ground. There was a low rumble and then a loud pop. I fell backwards onto my bed. And then right in front of me was a person, she was old and had a long maroon robe on. She looked like an ordinary old lady that just got out of bed. She glided toward me and sat on the other side of my bed. I jumped up and stumbled the other way.
“Wha-What are you?” I asked. Why did I have to be so rude sometimes?
“I am a human being just like you my dear. Why, what else would I be?”
“GET OUT! GET OUT!” I must have been having hallucinations. “This is not the time. I am not in the mood.” I started to sob. I couldn’t do this, I needed you have magical powers. to sleep. I was so confused.
“I have come here to tell you that you are a wizard, with one specific power. Magic comes out to those who need it the most. Your specific power is to heal people. Don’t be greedy with your powers give more than you receive, or it WILL come back to haunt you .”
She then got up walked up to the doll house and with another low rumble and a loud pop, she was gone. Everything was silent except the light pitter patter of the rain outside my window. I sat down on my bed in my dark room and pondered what to do. The next day I would go to see my uncle in his room. I had to make him well again. I was going to miss school, I could afford that. I layed down and closed my eyes ready for the supposed to be best day of my life. After a long restless night, I got up and got dressed. I was half asleep and walked around like I was a zombie. Since was a lazy day for me, I threw on some black sweats and a cuddly, soft crewneck, It felt like silk in-between my fingers . After arriving at the hospital, we sat there for hours before going into his room. As soon as I walked in the room, he sat up and started talking; it was odd because the doctors said he couldn’t do that yet. By the next day he was completely well and healthy. The doctors never found out. I now go up to the hospital every weekend and help those who need it. That old women really changed my life for the better.
