The Rain
Sitting outside the steps of my house, letting the cold air embrace me, I was later greeted with rain. I hate the rain, I hate it so much. It only brings up things I don’t want to remember. It reminds me of how bad my life has been so far, the worst thing that happened when it was raining was when I was walking home from elementary school with my mother.
“Come on honey, you’re going to fall if you keep running on the puddles.” My mother said gently.
“Okay mom, but now we have to cross the street” I said as I grabbed her tender hand.
We were in the middle of the street when a car came to us at full speed. My mom pushed me away into the damp cement and took the hit. I have no clue who was responsible for this crime, I only knew what the car looked like.
That was over ten years ago and now I’m in my last year of high school, but it feels like it only happened yesterday. Maybe if I go to sleep I won’t have to think about these horrible memories, I can just worry about school tomorrow, and it worked. I woke up in the morning and got ready for school so I could meet my friend, Thomas. When I saw him waiting outside I already knew he would make me feel better because of his stupid jokes.
“Hey Andrew, you know you didn’t answer any of my phone calls to hang out yesterday.” Thomas said curiously
“Oh sorry, I was caught up in something more important” I said.
Thomas sighed, “Its ok, I didn’t even call you yesterday, I wanted to see your reaction and it wasn’t worth it because it seems like you leave me out from everything.” Thomas said fake crying.
Sometimes Thomas can be really annoying, but he is one of the only people that can make me feel better after almost anything happens.
When school was out, I waited for Thomas to get out of his class so we could hang out.
"Took you long enough" I said annoyed.
"Well, you see, my class had to stay later than everyone else because our teacher was giving us this boring speech about the differences between men and women."
"Anyway, let's go to the park so we can practice basketball!" Thomas said excitedly, "Actually it looks like its going to rain today, maybe we can go tomorrow?
People began to look at Thomas like he had a problem because he was talking to himself. As soon as I heard him say that it was going to rain I ran to my home so I can try to forget about any memory that will make me feel bad. I could remember funny things that happened in my life to forget about the bad ones. I tried to remember the time when Thomas was acting like a fool.
Thomas was dozing off on the rough bench at school. I tried to get him awake by pulling his prickly hair that was caused by the gel he used.
"Huh, sorry what did you say?" Thomas asked tiredly.
" You must have a hearing problem" I said to Thomas.
" What? but I'm not wearing an earring" Thomas said puzzled.
I couldn't help but laugh at how confused he was about what I said.
I let out a chuckle remembering that event, it did make me feel better and it even stopped raining. I am very grateful to have friends like him to get me through hard times. I realized that as long as I have my friends and family in my heart, the rain can never put me down!
