My name is Sarah, I’m 27. I am from Sydney, Australia. I’m heading to the New Moon Colony in search of a new adventure. The colony has been around for about 2 years and has been quite successful. I’ve heard nothing but positive things about the place from people who have been there before. You can experience tons of things in Australia but after a while you get used to living there. I’m paying for this trip by using money that I’ve saved up while being a dolphin trainer for 5 years. I’ll miss leaving my pal Oliver the most, he is a dolphin that I’ve worked with since I moved to Australia. We bonded throughout the years while I taught him some tricks and observed his behavior.

In 2 days I will be traveling to The Kennedy Space Center in Florida. There I will meet my traveling companions who will be; Philip, Ralph, Sally, and Kate. We will then use a Saturn 5 Rocket to fly to the moon, the rocket is called Enterprise. The trip is supposed to take 3 days total.

To find out what to expect when I arrive I looked up some information about the climate of the moon and what I should prepare for.  I need to pack warm and cold clothes because during the day the temperature drops and at night the temperature rises. But there is no wind. I will have to go through 13 days of sun and 13 days of No sun due to how long it takes the moon to rotate around its axis once which is 26 days.

Today’s the big day! I finally arrive at Nasa later on in the day. I meet up with the group right away. Philip is the leader in charge of us. He seems genuinely nice and funny. I also talked with Ralph and Kate, they’re cousins and bicker a lot with each other but for the most part they seem bearable. Sally arrives later on and she seems a bit standoffish and only vaguely introduces herself.  We head towards The Enterprise and it’s different from what I was expecting, I had pictured something resembling a shuttle or airplane. Instead I see a tall pin like aircraft. We head in and it’s actually quite roomy.

The trip has gone good so far. The only thing bothering me slightly is the random creaks of the engine due to the temperature difference and, Kate complaining about how long it’s taking but that’s it. I randomly keep humming Don’t Stop Believing by Journey to keep myself entertained and distracted.

We have experienced one slight issue; we had lost communication with ground control for an hour. I was nervous at first about it but Philip told me that it would be fine and not to worry. Eventually they had straightened it out. We arrive 5 hours later. I first see the white rocky craters of the moon against the never-ending black star-filled sky.

We are staying in a Moon Base called Shades which is a big metal dome pretty much from the looks of it. The inside looks just like a normal town in New York City, full of buildings and neon lights. We are on our own from here now separating from the group. I chose to live in some apartments near a garden. Everyone I’ve met here seems friendly and welcoming so far. You can also freely go outside the dome and just float around and enjoy the actual moon environment as long as you’re suited up and supervised. Never go out alone, you never know what could go wrong.

It’s not that different living here there’s still the same city life and daily issues. They developed some high tech system to get all of the same resources we have available on earth here. It’s actually amazing to think about. There isn’t much to look at in space; all you see is just black all around you and some occasional stars or a random meteor.  I went outside today and had Philip supervise me; it’s always nice to see a familiar face in a strange place. It was actually fun experiencing zero gravity I did a series of hops and 2 flips and went inside because I was exhausted.

All is going good, I got a job running a café shop in the square called Stargazers Lounge. You can drink coffee and gaze at stars through telescopes or through our ceiling/roof it’s transparent. I love to just lounge here at night and read books under the skylight. I met a friend Luke today who also liked to read about the galaxy and chat about it. I miss earth occasionally but I’ve adjusted to this place easily. The dome has its own gravity somehow so we are able to stand firmly on the ground and not float around from zero gravity. I’m learning a lot about how this all works, so far I don’t regret coming here and I think it will be a good experience for me.
