The young student left after he heard the bell and collected his belongings to pack up into his bag. He then pulled it up onto his back and walked into the hallway through the flow of traffic. It was his first day of highschool and Eric was already struggling. He stopped near the stairwell and placed his bag on the ground and unzipped it, sifting through his materials looking for his schedule and school map with the room numbers, but also noticing he was way over prepared with many pencils and notebooks. Finally near the bottom he picked out his crumbled up schedule and looked at the room number for his next class, “Geometry - Room 107”. He then looked around looking for a sign that indicates which direction to head in, but found nothing. He started to get a little panicked as he noticed the hallway once swarming with people was beginning to thin out with only a few students left also looking for their classroom. Eric was startled as the bell rang almost out of nowhere, he could not believe how quick the time in between classes was.  He then stuffed his schedule into his pocket and instead unfolded his map searching over it, and after he found both his current location and the room he needed to get to he began a nervous jog realizing the hallways were completely empty.
Eric began to slow down as he approached the 100 hallway. He walked looking at each door number as he passed them on each side of the hall. Finally he reached room 107 and folded his map twice and put it into his pocket next to his schedule. He was tense as he opened the door and awkwardly smiled at the faces of his classmates, many of which he did not recognize. The teacher spoke up, “Hello there, is your name Paul?” Eric was confused and then choked out, “Uhh no, I’m Eric.” He looked at the teacher reading over her papers, as he kept his sweaty hands buried inside his pockets.
“Hmm well we don’t have an Eric on our attendance sheet, are you positive this is your class?” The teacher said glancing up from her papers. He thought for a moment and then froze, and asked, “What class is this?” He felt nervous and unwelcomed as some of the students in the back of the room snickered at his confusion.
“This is Algebra II” the teacher responded. Eric's hands were shaking as he pulled out his schedule and apologized for interrupting as he left the room. As he shut the door behind him he looked at the room number realizing he had mistakenly entered room 106. He then walked across the hallway and gave the room number a good look before he entered room 107. The teacher in that room was going over the class syllabus until Eric entered and then he turned towards him.
“You must be one of our missing students. Are you Harrison or Eric?” He said waiting for a response.
“Eric, um where can I sit?” He said looking around the room seeing a few empty desks available for him.
“Anywhere you like. We are assigning seats tomorrow.” The teacher said as he went back to syllabus review. Eric did not recognize many people in the room except for one kid near the back who he barely knew from art class in middle school. Neil or Ned maybe. He decided to sit there because it was much more desirable to sit next to someone you hardly knew that nobody at all. He sat down and placed his backpack down besides him, the kid from middle school pretended not to know Eric, but that wasn’t even close to his main concern. Eric had 7 more classes he had to find today.

School can be tough when first starting out and I believe this is a pretty common experience that many people have to endure pushed to the extreme a little, but still something that many students can relate to.
