Blue Rose
I look past the velvet curtain in front of the doorway to find a small abandoned room. I slowly walk inside the room, with fragile steps and soft breathing. The floor boards creaked and the cold heavy air felt like thorns on my skin. It was too dark to see the ground but bright enough to see ahead of me. At the far north end of the room was a small balcony where the moonlight faintly peered in. I stepped out on the balcony to find a blue glowing rose on the floor. I softly picked it up and stared at it. It was so beautiful, with a small glowing light around it, its petals shimmering and its stem cold. The rose carried memories, very beautiful ones that can warm any heart. But these memories were from an era long ago, forgotten, just like the rose. They were childhood memories that belonged to me. And as the realization came, the blue rose slowly began to shrivel into ashes in my hand, blown away by the night sky.
It deserves to be long forgotten, and that’s okay.
