“August 2022 Fiction Contest” 101 words “An intentional nightmare”
The dry, dusty ground, cracked like a web. My shaky arms tightened around Kase’s waist, as we sped away. Beneath us, the ground ominously turned black. I was terrified. Before I could speak, the ground disappeared. We screamed for help, as we, and our motorcycle, plummeted. If we stayed any longer, we’d probably die. We needed to force ourselves awake, before we made contact with the ground.
I awoke in bed, a hospital bed. Instantly, I reached for my stomach. I searched for my wound, my proof. Nothing. We’d been in a coma for three months. Maybe I really was crazy.
I always wondered why we dream. How fun it would be to live a dream. In her mind, this is what Alex wants to do. But maybe she’s crazy for thinking that.
