Friendly Fued
INT. APARTMENT - EVENING
[CARRIE just had a tough fight with her husband and her friend is trying to calm her down.]
CARRIE
Give me a cigarette.
JAMIE
You don't smoke.
CARRIE
Well, I do now.
JAMIE
Okay just calm down.
CARRIE
If I have a cigarette it will calm me down a whole lot faster.
JAMIE
Yeah, and it'll kill you a whole lot faster.
CARRIE
I’m willing to take that chance.
[CARRIE putting her hand out.]
CARRIE
I’m willing to take that chance.
[JAMIE pulling the cigarette out of her pocket.]
JAMIE
Alright. but I’m not going to tell you i told you so.
CARRIE
(Looking at the cigarette in JAMIE's hand) Good, now, that cigarette?
JAMIE
You sure you want to do this?
CARRIE
Yeah I mean, what else do i have to lose?
JAMIE
7 years of your life.
CARRIE
Like I need them anyways, my whole life is down the toilet.
JAMIE
(Handing CARRIE the cigarette) it's not like your dying.
CARRIE
Yeah but it feels like it.
JAMIE
I know it’s hard.
CARRIE
yeah, but I mean my whole is in ruins, I lost my job, my husband doesn't want to be with me, I’m battling for custody of my kids.
JAMIE
Please promise me you won't get addicted.
CARRIE
Why else do they put nicotine in these things?
[JAMIE looks at her with worry on her face, CARRIE stops smoking.]
CARRIE
Oh come on! (She puts her head down) would you rather I drink instead?
JAMIE
Yes, as a matter of fact i would.
CARRIE
Good (grabs a bottle from under the couch) cause i got one just for this occasion.
[CARRIE, puts it on the glass table then, walks to the kitchen in front of her, she grabs two bottles from the cupboard.]
JAMIE
You’ve got to be kidding me?
CARRIE
i know right? it's the finest wine around.
JAMIE
I was talking about you, your going insane, first the cigarette now the wine?
CARRIE
Oh come on , one drink won't get me drunk.
[walking to the table, puts the glasses down, and grabs the wine.]
JAMIE
Yeah and you sure aren’t driving either.
CARRIE
(puts down the bottle) fine! Would you rather the cigarette?
JAMIE
No! None, how bout that?
CARRIE
What’s the matter with you?
JAMIE
I just don't want you wasting your life away that’s all, considering your life's in the toilet.
[CARRIE giving her the eye]
JAMIE
Your words not mine.
CARRIE
What are you my mother now, i have one of those i don't need another one!
JAMIE
I’m just trying-
CARRIE
Now, if you don't mind I’m going to drink this and smoke this at the same time.
JAMIE
Oh God, that's a health risk.
JAMIE
Well, they don't say at your own risk for nothing.
[JAMIE grabs the glass spilling the wine on CARRIE's carpet.]
CARRIE
Oh my god! That’s new carpet. Clean that up.
JAMIE
I’m done. You know what your pathetic.
CARRIE
You forgot lonely, loser, ugly, backstabbing b****.
JAMIE
Don’t put yourself down like that.
CARRIE
I was talking about you.
JAMIE
okay, that's it I’m out.
CARRIE
Oh come on we were just getting started.
JAMIE
well, finish by yourself I’m out!
CARRIE
Aren’t you gonna sit here and enjoy some company?
JAMIE
Looks like you already have plenty of that. Goodbye Carrie.
[JAMIE exiting the room, CARRIE watching her as she leaves.]
CARRIE
Well, guess I’ll just enjoy this glass by myself. Oh well, more for me.
[She takes a sip, then chugs the whole thing down.]
1 hour later..
[CARRIE drunk dials JAMIE]
CARRIE
Jamie, I need your help!
JAMIE
I’m not talking to you.
CARRIE
What do you think you're doing now?
JAMIE
Carrie, I don't have time for this, it's sounds like your drunk?
CARRIE
I am, how did you guess that?
JAMIE
Look, I’m not going to talk to you till you see what you’re doing, you need help!
CARRIE
What? What are you talking about?
JAMIE
I once was on drugs and it almost ruined me, i was in denial for so long, thinking oh it's just once, it's just, i didn't see who it was hurting, and right now i know you don't see that. But I care about you, and i think it's better this way for you, me, and for everyone, including your family.
CARRIE
Wow! How come you never told me that before?
JAMIE
I guess i was so ashamed of it.
CARRIE
Well what happens now?
JAMIE
It’s up to you.
[Jamie hangs up the phone, Carrie put's the phone down and thinks.]
