“Dangers of First Grade” is a poem about, as the title says, the dangers of first grade.  This seems silly at first glance but after reading the entertaining poem, you’ll realize that first grade is actually quite dangerous.  Towards the end of the poem, the dangers of high school were also acknowledged, making first grade not seem so bad after all.
I personally loved this poem because it was slightly morbid yet humorous. In the poem the first line was, “Colorful carpets that might wrap you up and suffocate you.” I found this line funny because it was so straightforward and it puts readers back in their first grade classroom. Overall, I enjoyed this poem because it was silly, yet it held a deep meaning of be grateful for what you have in the moment.
