The Secret of the Canal
There were disembodied heads dangling from my ceiling, and the trees outside my window. One was staring at me with one glass eye."Look mommy it is looking at me" Denielle squealed. There is another and another, looking in all directions. I suppressed in a shudder. There were dolls of all shapes, sizes and decay. They hang from the trees like grimly old Christmas ornaments. Most lost eyes, limbs, and hair. Their grimly complexions and missing eyes made them look like mutant chucky dolls. Despite the muggy temperature from the blazing sun, goose bumps appeared on my body. "This is the island of dolls" said mom. "Creepy doesn't even describe my thoughts about these dolls", I thought in my head. Get a grip mom they are just dolls.
As we were visiting this canal down the road from our house, our guide was telling us a story about this canal. He ended with a indescribable wink. "It's for salvadora" he whispered. "Who is salvadora?" Asked denielle in a very curious voice. "She was a young girl around the age of seven, who drowned in this canal many years ago" said our tour guide. As I hear the spirit of salvadora still wanders this island, which is why no one lives here."Mom! These dolls are giving me the creeps, take them away from me" denielle screeched. Then, mom took the dolls away and every minute another one came back. We noticed that every time one came back they became closer and closer to me. I started to get the chills going through my body. I didn't know what's going on at that point. It was maddie who started putting all these dolls up, to reveal the spirit of the dead salvadora. Just a few years ago, they found his body floating in one of the canals, just over there. The guide pointed to a spot in the distance, obscured by a carpet of reeds. She had died at the very spot where Salvadora was thought to have drowned. After sundown, they believe that when night falls, the dolls come alive, and every single person was stuck on this island of terror. She is here. I fell her lurking around me, the various smells being consumed into my body at once.
