Three Little Deer
They are the only ones who hide from me. I am the only one that hunts them. Three little deer with long skinny legs and arms just like me. Three who should not trot around. Three scared deer trying to live another day. From my stand I can hear them, but my dad says it's only a squirrel.
Their hearing and smell is a strength. They send the wind out first. They grow up and get bones out of their heads and destroy trees in their way. This is how they mark the land.
Let one forget his territory, they’d all have to fight it out, each with their antlers locked. Crunch, crunch, crunch as others walk on by. They ignore.
When I’m gone do they come out to eat, when I’m gone do they miss me, then I miss them. When there's nothing left to hear in the woods. Three who grew big and strong. Three who trot and run. Three whose only reason is to be hind from me.
