Grandmother,

My knees buckle from the weight of thought, and you are there to take the load. My soul recoils from the bitter truths of the world, and you are there to coax me out again. I stumble in the dark recesses of my heart, and your halo lights the way. I’m drowning in the tears of sorrow, and the sun of your love dries them upon my face.

But now you are gone, friend of my heart and my back must get stronger. My spirit must stand strong, courageously facing the universe. My feet must be sure of their path, and my eyes must pierce the shadows. I must learn to embrace the cold deep, to laugh in the face Poseidon.

And these things I WILL do, for you would expect no less of me.
