My dad’s eyes are a blue-grey. Sometimes they hold a deep green hue, sometimes they hold a melancholy, slate gray appearance. As if they are reflecting the pain he holds in so well. My sister's eyes are as blue as the ocean on a bright day. They are purely, perfectly, perkily, blue. My eyes are sapphires. My eyes are like chameleons, they change hues depending on my environment. Light blue when it is sunny, deep blue when it is dark.

But my mom’s eyes, are a perfect balance of light and dark. My mom’s eyes are warm, like the comforting feeling of a towel that has just been taken from the dryer. Warm, like the sweet scent of freshly baked cookies being pulled from the oven. Despite this warmth, my mom’s eyes are rimmed with a dark sapphire blue, much like my own. This rim is the part of the ocean that drops off, and you can no longer touch the sandy bottom. A perfect balance of light and dark.
