Life As An Immigrant
In life; we shouldn’t judge the way people are because they come from a different country. Instead we should help others to better ourselves. We should try to come together to make the world a better place to be in.
I was three years old when I came to the United States with my family. We originally came from England, but sadly had to leave because of my dad’s job. We moved to the south side of New Jersey. It was a safe environment for me and my family during that time. I started kindergarten the next year after my family and I moved into our new home. We were finally organized, and we all felt comfortable about our new neighborhood. No crimes and nor disturbances was never happening in our neighborhood at all. It felt like back home in England.
But this one day when I came home from school, it changed my life forever. I was walking home from school and I noticed a homeless woman in our neighborhood. Her hair was damaged, her skin was wrinkled, and her clothes were dirty. I wanted to help the lady because my parents raised me to be the type of person to help people. I began walking towards the lady; I spoke to her with a soft polite tone and said hello to the lady. Suddenly the lady began making racist slurs to me because she noticed my british accent at the time. I felt upset and felt lost because I've never been in that situation before in my life. I ran home crying to my parents when it happened. My parents asked me who the person who was calling me the racial slurs. I told them it was the homeless lady outside, just a few streets down.
My parents and I went back to confront the lady. The lady seemed like she didn't care but then realized that she was wrong for what she had done. She finally apologized and came upfront about her actions. She told us she had lost everything in her life, including her parents and four children. She didn't know what to do with her life at all at the time, and she didn't know how to get back on her two feet at all. My parents offer to help the lady to get her back on her feet; the lady rejected the help but later accept it because she finally realized that she desperately needed the help. We took her back home and cleaned her up that day. She ate dinner with us and also told funny stories about her life as a child. When it was time to go to sleep, she slept down stairs on a warm sofa.
My parents bought her new clothes, new shoes, and also a new cell phone to keep in touch. My mother started looking online for local jobs in the area, A few weeks later and my mom had founded her a job at walmart. The lady started to break down in tears because she didn't know that someday she was going to be treated like this before. She kept apologizing for the things she said to me during that time I came home from school. My family and I thank her for it because if she didn't say those things, she would have never gotten so much help from us. Until this day and on; we keep in contact with her, She got her all four of her children back from the state, in the next seven years; and she also has her own car and apartment.
We should always help people in life. You never know how much influence you can have on a person’s life. Sometimes; it's not going to be easy to help people but at least try and help that person in need. You never know if you’re going to need help someday. We should all help others to make the world a better place to live in.
