Dress Code

The simplest things can be the most distracting. A mere black, brown, or colorful band on the wrist can draw one’s attention away from one’s timed multiplication assessment. Allowing people to express themselves is overrated anyways. The dress code is a valuable and critical part of the school system since students would be better served in the future blending in instead of standing out, letting students show their personalities shouldn’t be allowed because it is extremely distracting to teachers and their fellow students, and uniformity must be maintained throughout the year to protect the reputation of the school system and administration. Therefore, under school authority, students should not be permitted to be themselves.

Our institution aims to condition our students to blend in as opposed to standing out, which in turn helps their success as males or females. We are setting up students the best we can for their futures, and that includes being singled out for their gender based on what they wear and do. We send girls to the principal’s office when their skirts are one millimeter too short, but when the boys wear shorts that are clearly not mid-thigh and start fights with each other on the playground, we turn a blind eye. Because boys will be boys, haven’t you learned that by now? They wouldn’t listen anyways. Despite their rebellious nature, we should do everything in our power to protect the pure precious minds of the boys that attend school.

Distractions should not be present in a learning environment. How am I expected to learn effectively when a girl’s knees are showing? Absolutely unacceptable. God forbid someone wears socks that have a hot pink Puma logo on them, my goodness, I can’t imagine being able to focus on any lesson in that type of setting. Don’t even get me started on large, colorful earrings, especially those silver reflective hoops. They make me feel like I’m staring into a mirror every time I look at someone’s ears. I've always wondered why people wear clothing they feel comfortable in when clearly it is distracting others.  Don’t be an attention seeker when your eyes should be on Jesus. Have some decorum, good gracious.

Lastly, students should adhere strictly to the dress code for the acceptable reputation of the school. Do you think people will want to attend our school when they see hundreds of flashy bracelets on a girl’s wrist? No, thank you, bare hands should be receiving Jesus at Mass, not a jewelry store. Don’t even get me started on the clothing choices, so scandalous. Unfortunately, clothing has been modeled by females to be scandalous as well. If your fingertips can reach past your skirt, immediately go home and change. I do not care if a student is in the middle of an important lesson, as no one around them will be able to focus if they continue to serve as a distraction in an educational setting.

Nevertheless, the dress code is such an important part of education. I cannot even imagine trying to learn the fundamentals of algebra while the girl sitting next to me has a bright neon yellow scrunchie in her hair. Students should simply not be permitted to show any form of unique interests, as almost certainly when you attend a Catholic school you fit into the mold of excelling in academics, playing at least one sport, and wearing the uniform the way it should be worn. Speaking of fitting into the mold, most Catholic school students end up working a comfortable life in their 9 to 5 where they are secretly miserable. Gender roles will be enforced as protecting their images is so much more important than expressing their true selves. And finally, in order for the vicious cycle of more and more students with suppressed personalities to continue, wearing the uniform properly must be modeled by students throughout their years at our institution. I encourage you to examine how you dress in your daily life, and if you think Jesus would approve of that mini skirt.
