The Infamous Game

Every once in a while I am reminded of my 4th grade incident when people ask why my clavicle looks weird. In my opinion it doesn’t look “weird,” it just looks different from the “normal”.  To me it serves as a warning to never go on the tall curvy slides at the park ever again.

Waiting very patiently for my turn, suddenly a kid pushed me over the railing and escaped down the slide. Nothing got in the way of his competitive spirit. Not even other kids. From that moment on, pitch black and silence surrounded me.

I tried to move but I couldn’t. My ears were ringing nonstop. Everything I saw was blurred and spun wildly. Wood chips dug into my delicate skin. Gaining back consciousness felt like the slowest process ever. First I was able to see again, then slowly I gained back my hearing, and finally I could control my movements.

After coming to, I realized I was encircled by teachers. I got rushed to the ER where they discovered my broken clavicle. Unfortunately it wasn’t severe so they never fixed it, hence the deformed bone.

At first, I concluded that I was shoved off the top of the slide because kids are just mean around the age of 10. But I was quickly corrected by my teacher when revealing the story to my friends. The real reason that I was pushed off the slide was due to an infamous game of tag.

I was inspired to write this piece because recently I was at the beach with my friend and she pointed it out to me, reminding me of the event.
