the day i lost
I tried using an allegory and writing in the third person. An allegory is writing that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning. In my story, the hidden meaning is that there are people that will support you. In the story, the boy represents me
The day of the county finals had arrived. The boy decided not to eat the entire day to ensure he was in the right weight class. He left school with a friend. The friend tells the boy he should be excited, and pumped up that there are only two kids in our school to be competing. The boy assured him he was ready but it was a lie. He was so nervous that it felt as if he had eaten rotten eggs prior. The boy and the friend reached Columbia. As soon as they got there they weighed in. In the first match the boy just barely won.
The boy's second match comes up. Mr Blair tells him what he needs to remember and that the boy can do this. The boy understood what he said but forgot everything Mr Blair said when he stepped onto the mat. The boy's self-esteem plummeted seeing how strong his opponent looked. The boy and his opponent shook hands and the round started. Tension rose the boy and his opponent knew this was the match for the county champion and no risks should be taken.
The boy took a shot and got turned over. The boy fights and gets out of the bottom position he rolls his opponent, and the counting starts 1..2.. The opponent breaks free.
The second round starts and the boy chooses to be on top. The whistle is blown, and they start fighting for a better position, grabbing the head and arms looking for an opening. The boy's opponent takes it. The boy tries pushing back but he's not strong enough. The boy gets on his back. He tries to get to a better position but the whistle is blown. The boy lost by pin. Frustrated, he hit the ground. They shook hands and the opponent's hand was raised.
The boy sits down and cries. Thinking of what he could've done better, what he should've done, and how close he was to getting the pin. When the boy looks up He sees friends, family, and strangers telling him it's fine.
