My Favorite Toy
When I was a kid, my favorite toy was a baby doll from Walmart, that I named grace. She had a silicone face that moved with animatronics in the head that made the mouth and eyes move. The body was made of cloth and stuffing but the kind of cloth that felt plasticky and needed to be covered, with hard plastic hands. She came in a dark blue onesie outfit, it had big white flowers and bright pink ruffles. By the end of the time, I had her she had sharpie all over her eye lid and ears from where I drew eyebrows, eyeliner and marked where I wanted her ears pierced. (Yes, I did somehow actually manage to pierce her ears and put earrings in it.) She was important to me because I had just got my first surgery! I had gotten my tonsils out in November of 2016. My mom had taken me to the Walmart toy section and let me pick any toy to help “keep me entertained well I was out of school.” I finally picked that toy and brought it home. Throughout the next few months, I brought grace everywhere I went. Like she was an actual child, and I was her mother. I had also gained lots of accessories for her. I got doll clothes, diapers, headbands, a fold out crib, and a car seat. By my birthday 4 months later I had owned about half of the target doll section. (I know, I was very spoiled as a kid). For my birthday that year I got the same doll again because it was my absolute favorite toy. My mom always used to say that I had “Twins”.
I was in love with these dolls for multiple years in a row. Almost a whole year later I was still obsessed with them, and it was Christmas time. So, for Christmas I got a stroller for them. It was my favorite thing in the whole world. I used to bring them into stores and push them around in the stroller. All the target employees used to remember me by the “girl who came in with a pink leather stroller.” That’s right I owned a pink leather stroller that was big enough for two dolls to sit in. Thinking back on it now I am very surprised on how my imagination was able to work be
