As I walk from our family’s beach chair by the wave pool, my heart is racing.  “Ethan, we're going to go to the Snake Pit.  You should come!” says my sister, Ava, waving me over.  My cousin, Seth agrees.  They are about to go on the Snake Pit water slide at Wildwater Kingdom.  I had been to this water park near Allentown Pennsylvania many times, but I had never gone on the Snake Pit ride.  I was always too scared to.  The Snake Pit is a water slide where you stand on a platform in the tube, and suddenly a trapdoor opens up beneath your feet and you slide down an almost 90 degree drop.  It’s an adrenaline inducing slide.  I’m hesitant at first with my response, but I end up agreeing to go after a little peer pressure.  Once we arrive at the water slide tower, every step up the staircase feels like an hour.  I am so nervous!  I’m afraid of heights so I clutch the railing tightly as we approach the slide.  “Wow, this is high up!”  I say.  When we get to the top, I see people in three different tubes looking back at us.  I can see the fear in their eyes as they prepare to go down the Snake Pit.  Suddenly, a lifeguard presses a button and there is a strange clicking sound right before a trapdoor opens under their feet.  I hear screams tunneling down below us as they shoot through the tube.  We wait anxiously as a few more groups take their turn.  Both my cousin and sister had both already gone down this slide before, so they knew the feeling of riding the Snake Pit.  My heart is beating a gazillion times a second as the last few people disappear down the tube.  “You got this Ethan,” says Seth.  “Next up!” calls the lifeguard.  “It’s going to be fine,” I keep telling myself as I, my sister, and my cousin walk into the tubes parallel to each other.  I wait terrified as the lifeguard closes the door to my tube.  I feel myself sweating hard as I await the fall.  I hear a robotic voice like Siri counting down to zero from three.  Once it hits zero, I hold my breath.  I hear the iconic clicking sound and the trapdoor opens suddenly beneath me.  The next thing I know I’m dropping into a seemingly endless abyss.  It’s pitch black as I slide around and around.  I never thought to scream, which I should have because it helps to ease the nerves.  Instead, my stomach drops for a solid ten seconds while I get whipped around a tunnel.  Then I see the tube start to light up and sunlight shines through.  I had just gone down the Snake Pit!

I first got the idea to right this story when 2 Summers ago, I went to Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom near Allentown, Pennsylvania.  I went on my first "drop" water slide where a trapdoor opens up beneath your feet, and it was such an exhilarating experience that I thought I would write about it.  I was really happy with how this piece turned out, and I am quite proud of it.
