The Soundtrack of My Mind
It’s odd to think that words, when sung in melody, strike you harder than when just spoken. I have been an avid music enthusiast for as long as I can remember, and it feels as though music is embedded into my very soul. As I grew older, my fascination with psychology grew alongside my love for music, leading me to choose psychology as one of my GCSE subjects. Psychology is quickly becoming one of my favorite subjects, only second to music. It was during this period that a question began to form in my mind: how can I leverage my understanding of psychology to create songs that activate our brains? This question led me on a journey to explore what I call 'The Soundtrack of My Mind.'
From a young age, music has had the uncanny ability to have an iron grip on my emotions, and I always wondered why. Songs, I discovered, use rhythm and melody to evoke emotion, creating a personal connection with listeners. Harmonies enhance this connection, creating sensations of stability or tension, shifting our feelings along with the music. Music has the power of affecting our dopamine and serotonin levels. Simply listening to a song you love can make you truly happy or invoke sadness. I have definitely caught myself with a huge grin on my face while listening to my favorite songs, not quite realizing how it got there. Music even enhances productivity by helping us focus, block distracting noises, reducing stress, improving our attitude towards the task at hand.
Music even contributes to the medical field, where Music therapy effectively reduces stress, enhances emotional well-being, and improves mood, particularly in patients with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. It fosters social interaction, facilitates communication, and aids in pain management across various healthcare settings.
My journey with music has been profoundly enriched by these benefits, underscoring the vital role of music in our lives. It solidifies my goal in creating each of my songs to be the soundtrack of my mind. Songs that invoke emotion, spark productivity, and heal humanity.
In conclusion, the profound impact of music on our emotional and psychological well-being cannot be overstated. It has the potential to shape our moods, boost productivity, and even provide solace and healing in the face of adversity. My mission, fueled by love for both music and psychology, is to craft songs that resonate on a deeply personal level, enriching the lives of those who listen. These songs, I hope, will serve as the ever-evolving soundtrack of my mind creating lasting impressions, invoking profound emotions in the hearts and minds of everyone who hears them.
