Have you ever found a stray animal in your yard or brought one home? Well I have and that experience changed me into a better person. One act of kindness can change you into something better. Here is the story of the dog I named Thor…the one dog that made a better person out of me.

One December night, around 10:00 P.M, I was home alone with my dog, Tally, and it was snowing like it would never stop. It was around Christmas time and I was watching twenty-five days of Christmas on TV when Tally started to go crazy; barking, jumping up on the couch and scratching the door. I journeyed to the door and look into the storm to see what she was going crazy about. I gazed into the sheet of white and saw nothing… then out of the corner of my eye I saw  a big yellow dog, and I was frightened by how big this dog was because I was about eight and not very tall or big. He looked like a pretty old dog with a cream color coat of fur and was about as big as a trash can. He was cold, and I could tell because I could physically see him shaking. So, I put Tally in my mom and Dad’s room and let the old dog into my home.

He was the sweetest dog I had ever meet. He came in and just laid on the floor like he belonged, and I liked him from that point on. I fetched him some food and water, which he wolfed down in a minute or two.  I called my mom and told her about the dog I let into the house and she told me that she would be home soon and that we would take him to the humane society. The big yellow dog was at the door by the time I put the phone down. It looked like he had to go outside, so opened the door and let him out. He walk out into the middle of the yard and I followed because I didn’t want him running away. As I was walking down the stairs on the back porch I slipped and fell down them right into the snow pile at the bottom. I was lying flat on my back, with the snow falling all around me, when I saw that big yellow dog staring at me. I could still see the concern in his eyes, at that moment with this big yellow dog lying next to me in the snow I thought of a perfect named for this sweet, caring and large dog, “Thor.”

I dragged myself out of the snow and walked with Thor back to the house. Later that night around 10:45 my mom came home and we got Thor into the car, but Thor was nervous being in the back all alone. So, I climbed in the back with Thor and calmed him down. Well, my mom drove us to the humane society, Thor laid on my lap and fell asleep. when we reach our destination, my mom called the police to come and open that little side door for night drop offs, I stayed in the car with Thor, he was so content just laying on my lap, that when the police officer arrived I couldn’t  let Thor go. But, I knew that sweet, old yellow dog needed a home, so I let him go.

A week later I went back to the humane society to see what happened to Thor, I learn from the lady at the front desk that a nice family adopted Thor and that he is very happy in his new home. I feel as though that dog made me a better person who is caring and thoughtful. Now I ask you, have you ever found a stray animal in your yard or brought one home? And if you have did you think that this stray could change your life? It happen to me, that old dog changed me. I think that it could happen to anyone.
