Summary:

The story follows a young boy, Leonard, as war rips his family and life apart. Told in France during World War 1, Leonard struggles to cope with the pain inflicted by war, not on those fighting, but on bystanders.
Both his sister and his brother are changed from him by the war, leaving Leonard questioning the importance of war and morality of it.
