                                                          The Fallen

The gym felt like an Easy Bake Oven. I was sweating bullets and at the same time I felt like I was going to throw up. My hands felt as slippery as baby oil.

“Guys the other team is here and they look ready!” yelled Laisa.

“I’m literally right next to you, you don’t have to yell in my ear!” I yelled in her ear like a crazy person. When we started to prepare for the game, I was like a waterfall pouring out water: I didn’t know how to stop it. While we were preparing, I kept looking over at the other team they all looked so professional and I kept thinking to myself we are going to lose this game to them. I  wasn’t the only one who thought that, Laisa came up to me and told me,

“Kathy, the other team looks nice.” After she told me that, I gave her a weird look like she was crazy or something.

“Not like that! I mean that they are really good at volleyball,” she whispered to me.

“Oh I thought you meant that they are pretty good looking or something,” I told her.

“No Kathy I didn’t mean it that way you buttface!” she yelled in my ear.

“Well okay I’m sorry I didn’t mean to interpret it in the wrong way,” I muttered underneath my breath. The game was about to begin it felt as if I just enter a massive  heat wave I could have slide across the gym floor without stopping. We all came into a group huddle it smelled as if we were near the garbage but it wasn’t us that smelled like that it was just how the gym smells like. All I could think of is when will this game be over. When we came in the huddle our coach,Jane, said to us,

“Okay guys we’ve got this, I know you guys are a little nervous but we have practiced so hard to get here. Let’s not ruin it now, on three we say gators okay.”

“ 1 2 3 GATORS!” we all yelled echoing through the gym. The game finally started I would always check Jane’s board to make sure she put me in the game despite me being a little shaken I always want to play and have a good time. Jane gave out the position all of us were going to play, they were all the same positions we played lasted game. The other team had the ball first and Imani would always got frustrated because she wanted to serve first. When the girl served it over the ball it was coming towards me when I hit it, it was like a rock hitting a mattress lucky someone hit over and we got the point but that wasn’t the last time that happened. It was Laisa turn to serve she always had this expression on her face every time she served but I told her,

“You are a brave and independent women you’ve got this.” to make her feel a little better about herself and it always works. When she served the ball over the other team were making a play to send it back over when they did, the back row always got first hit. Bella hit the ball and it went towards the ceiling I thought I could get the ball over but the gym floor was like a slip and slide but without the water and soap. Bang it was as if lighting hit the solid ground, I was on the floor everyone coming towards me my hands were clenching against my head so hard no one was able to see my face. Imani, Laisa, Riana, Bella, and Coach Jane all huddle around me with a worried expression on their face as if I was dead. While I was laying on the floor my head was pounding It felt like a hammer hitting my head over and over. When I got up I told everyone,

“I’m fine it doesn’t hurt, I landed on my ponytail instead of my head.” but I was lying to them I didn’t want Jane to pull me out of this game just because of that enstened. After that enstened I was still playing but every time I looked at Imani, Laisa, or Riana they would always mouth to me,

“Kathy are you sure your okay?” and I would always reply,

“Yes I’m fine.” Now I know that people should always be careful at times.
