Elizabeth and Marc have been best friends for years. Marc means the world to Elizabeth. He’s the only one who sees her as she really is. When Elizabeth is around Marc, her shy personality disappears. She can just be herself.
One night after walking home from a school dance, Elizabeth and Marc find themselves in similar situations:

“I felt like someone was watching me,” Marc said with a worried look on his face.

I suddenly stop walking and stare at him, puzzled.

“What?” he asked.

“I felt the same way at the dance.”

Later that evening, they arrive at Elizabeth’s house, and Marc turns to leave. Elizabeth shuts the door behind him and begins to walk upstairs. As she grasps the railing, she hears a strange noise:

“Hmmm, weird. I’m sure it’s nothing,” I whispered to myself when the noise could no longer be heard.

Or was it?
