there is a mother,
somewhere.

her belly is
swollen with promise
of button nose
and child’s laughter.

soon after, there are boys
lying dead on concrete
left to rot in the road.
they are not given burial.
see, it is rumored that
not even god
wants these children.

their mothers stand
stiff-backed and tight-lipped,
a legion.
they say they wish for peace,
each time. they cry,
they mourn, they don’t ever
go silent.

To love is to be vulnerable; Triumph is born out of struggle; We notice shadows most when they stand alone in the midst of overwhelming light.

Wow. This is amazing. I absolutely, love this. This touched and gripped my heart. For some reason, it reminds me of my birth-mother, though I'm not sure why. When I said this touched and gripped my heart, I meant it. This is phenomenal and written with talent. Your poem has vulnerability, honesty and emotion and that I love. You're not afraid to show the emotion, you're also not afraid to show the rawness through your words and for that I'm in awe. I'm truly glad that this has an editor's choice and I hope and pray that you this will someday be published. You have talent and greatness and light and a beauty that is your own; and so much more. I'm saying this because it's true. It is. You are a wonderful and talented and amazing writer person, please don't forget that. Because all of this and so much is true. Thank you for sharing this, my friend. Thank you. :)
