thank you, it angers me that people think that emos are people who cut themselves, sometimes i wish they knew... at school, i used to draw about death, like for example, a person hanging themselves, i did it for myself and for my own reasons, that doesn't make me emo, does it?

When I was little, I actually wanted know what pain felt like. I didn't know the word emo that time but I gave myself around 3 paper cuts until my mom saw me and told me to stop. A lot of my friends found out about this and started to call me emo. At first, I though emo was only about people cutting themselves, but not anymore. People have their own reasons why they are emo and I have mine. Whe I'm at school, I laugh a lot with my friends, hang out with them and even go to parties with them. But, when I'm at home, I feel like it's not a safe place for me. My parents are going to a divorced stage right now and my mom thinks she can order me around by telling me that I'm only allowed to study, no computer times, I can't invite or hang out with my friends and that I need to act like a girl because I'm a girl. The truth is, I can't stand acting like a girl. I hate half of the girls at my school because they are the kind of people that like to spread rumors about other people like me. So I started to buy gothic clothes which my mom hates. My sister doesn't care about me and this girl staying at my house is trying to get into my personal life by stalking my friends. Just recently, I got into a huge fight with my mom and she told me that she doesn't want me anymore and that I need to grow up. She also told me that she wished I'm out of the house because she's bored of me. It's sad. She doesn't know I'm emo. I'm considering to tell her one day but I know she won't like it. I've been so scared that I don't even want my friends to know what I'm going through. I hate going to a therapist because they don't help and I don't like it when my mom tries to figure out whats wrong with me.

totally right im emo and i wear totally bright colors and smile alot of the time at school but at home its super hard wit an alchaholic(sp?) dad, an abusive mom, and an evil sis life is hard but as a true emo i appreciate ur attemnt(sp?) to clearify the defination of emo. and im srry if my spelling sux english is not my best subject XD

I've been called emo and laughed at it. In fact a friend and I had this long discussion about it one day. Another friend said I was totally not emo because Emo people cut themselves and hate life. I wanted to scream, "Thats not it!"

What you're saying is completely true. Emos would be happy to know that you're looking out for them. :)
