Silent Lightning
Silent lightning
 Shoots through the sky,
 As the air becomes charged
 With its terrible power;
 Its ferocity is seen
 For miles around
Though not a sound is heard –
 A symphony of light
 Requires no help,
 Though a thundering bass,
 Rumbling through, is heard,
 As it captures your heart
In a grip of exhilarating fear.

 I watch the performance
 And from my window
It seems that although no raindrops fall
 To the ground, giving life,
 Droplets of sound,
 And tidbits of light
 Are scattered across
 The vast frozen landscape,
 As we stand transfixed,
 Unmoving, just gazing
 At nature’s loveliest, darkest,
 Oldest, and most terrible performance.
