Where I am From...
I am from the swing-set,
from gravel and fences.
I am from the long grass in the construction site behind us.
(Swarming, growing, consuming badminton shuttlecocks.)
I am from the hyacinths that ‘appeared’ every year
the cherry tree
whose life was sucked away by the wind
and saved by the son-in-law of those nice neighbor folks.
I'm from logic and reasoning,
from Gargi and Sekhar.
I'm from multiple choice questions
and the life prompts with no answer,
from memories and once-memories.
I'm from ‘don’t worry about it’
From not being average
To not knowing what’s average and what is not
I'm from the Beehive, a Keystone, the Bayou and Sunshine
No food that sounds American enough.
From Whatsapp, Skype, and Vonage to bridge a continental bridge
Family that is close but far at the same time.
A steel colored harddrive,
containing memories of the past,
Faces of those in and out of my life
Blurring my mind completely.
I am from more that these--
my fate decided well before--
Born at the perfect convergence
