An Ode to Chocolate
We have a love-hate relationship
I want you, but can’t have you
Know that you’re not good for me
But I want you anyway.
So delicious
Not nutritious
Unless I have a broken heart
Then you’re the only one that can comfort me.
White, milk, or dark
I’ll take you any way
And let myself wallow in your sweet filling
And creamy center
I’ll even take you as a piece of cake
Or ice cream on a hot summer day
No matter what holiday
You appear, in one shape or another.
Maybe as an Easter bunny
Or a Valentine’s Day treat
You capture my heart
From the start
I can’t have you all the time
Even though it’s hard not to make you mine
And you’ve got to know I love you
But I just found someone new.
His name is broccoli.
