Christmas Joy
The scent of gingerbread
Filled the room
Full of family members
I had only seen once
Maybe twice a year
The scent grew stronger
As my mother carried in
A plate filled with decorated gingerbread cookies
Shaped in the form of a man
The sweet taste made me smile
All of a sudden
Music began to play
From the living room stereo
Mostly about this joyous holiday
That’s when we all decided to dance the night away
Then everybody froze
As the clock struck twelve
But the music kept droning on
Everyone stood together in a clump
Singing the song that was playing for the world to hear
Most of my family left
Some of them stayed behind
And we all sat on the couch
In front of the soothing fireplace
And shared our Christmas joy
